Orientation session for new mandate holders organized by the Coordination Committee of Special Procedures, Human Rights Council of the United Nations.

Dr. Calin Georgescu participated in his capacity as Special Rapporteur on the adverse effects of the movement and dumping of toxic and dangerous products and wastes on the enjoyment of human rights. 

The topics discussed were:
- Role of the Coordination Committee of Special Procedures;
- Role and status of mandate holders and their independence;
- Overview of working methods;
- General discussion on current challenges.

15th session of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations

Geneva / 13 September - 1 October 2010

Dr. Calin Georgescu, Executive Director of NCSD, participated in his capacity as Special Rapporteur on the adverse effects of the movement and dumping of toxic and dangerous products and wastes on the enjoyment of human rights.

In the scheduled session on 15 September from 10.00 to 13.00. he had the opportunity to present three reports prepared by his predecessor Okechukwu Ibeanu, namely the annual report; the report on the mission to Kyrgyzstan; and the report on the mission to India.

In his presentation, Dr. Georgescu focused in particular on specific recycling activities concerning toxic wastes and hazardous materials, including uranium, mercury, ship-breaking and e-waste (waste from used electric appliances and electronic items).
